Free ride from the Pacific

Hurricane Patricia was a Pacific hurricane that made landfall on the Mexican Pacific coast. The moisture was driven over the mountains into Texas to create, with a cold front, a very cold wet weekend. Just a little tree damage.

How many Pacific creatures were transported to Texas?

Smart Wasps

Paper Wasps are common here, and build their nests suspended from a narrow stalk in protected areas, usually under furniture. These wasps found a stronger enclave.

Matilda the Musical

This was a wonderful, clever, production.

But, to get the one flaw out of the way first, the kids singing in English accents was bad.  Really bad. They needed subtitles.

But that should not stop you seeing this.

Matilda is a really smart girl with the worse parents in the world. They call her "boy," they dissuade her from reading, and she escapes to make-believe and storytelling.

The library scenes where Matilda tells her stories has spooky paired voices, sparkling back lighting, and shadowy characters. Really magical.

The school is run by Agatha Trunchbull, an over the hill Olympic female hammer thrower, who calls the kids maggots, and in on heart stopping scene swings an innocent girl around and around, and out through the window. But the lights go out, flashes go off, and then we see the girl falls back to the stage and is caught by the students. A scene to die for.

It has a happy ending. Her parents have to leave to Spain to escape the Russian Mafia after selling them junk cars.  They do not want her, so she is "adopted" by her teacher Miss Honey.

House Numbers

Deed Restrictions are the most local laws that apply to me and often the most arbitrary. Here are the words fron the lastest Newsletter:

And this is what I have from Istanbul:

It is almost correct, but subjectively it could be argued it does not "match the colors of the house."

Refugee from Alaska

This car was spotted in Sealy Texas. It is a long drive from Alaska to Texas.

The license plate may be a clue, V3GGIE. The driver could have been hounded out of town, as one of the last vegetarians left in Alaska. Not a an easy place to live if you are not a carnivore.

PETA is an animal rights organization, "People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals." In Alaska they wear T-shirts with the PETA logo followed by "People Eating Tasty Animals."

Eek!

Firemen do not make fires and this eye does not receive light, but it glows in the dark and wriggles its way towards you in the dark.
